West Bromwich Albion could reportedly sign two of Norwich City’s former Championship veterans: Russell Martin and Wes Hoolahan.

Russell Martin to West Bromwich Albion; an astute and experienced addition or a cheap quick fix?

That is the debate going on between Baggies fans on Twitter amid reports in the Sun that Martin could be offered a short-term contract at The Hawthorns.

It is reported that Martin, along with his former Norwich City teammate Wes Hoolahan, are training with West Brom after being released by the Carrow Road club earlier in the summer.

Signing a 32-year-old and a 36-year-old, shortly after bringing Tyrone Mears back to English football from MLS, is far from ambitious and does not exactly reflect long-term planning.

And with a number of highly-rated youngsters hoping for a chance at The Hawthorns, the arrivals of Martin and Hoolahan would only serve to restrict their game time.

Although if you look at it from another perspective, and some fans are, Martin is a player with great experience and two Championship promotions on his CV. And even if he is not a regular starter, the former Scotland international’s leadership could prove very important off the pitch.

But after being limited to just five league appearances last season before a disappointing loan spell at Rangers, Martin must prove that he can still perform at Championship level.
