Scottish Premiership giants Celtic signed Charly Musonda on loan from Chelsea for the next 18 months.

Celtic tried for a number of months to bring Charly Musonda to Parkhead.

The Daily Record even reported in the summer that the Glasgow giants were ready and willing to pay £5 million for a player that, up until this season, hadn’t even made his first-team bow for Premier League champions Chelsea.

By January, however, Celtic had got their man at last with Musonda joining on an 18-month loan deal and the 21-year-old Belgian flyer has made it clear exactly why he was keen to swap the Stamford Bridge bench for a temporary spell in green and white.

“It would be unbelievable to win my first trophy at Celtic,” Musonda told the club’s official website.

“That’s why I’m here. This is a club that constantly deals with the pressure to win trophies. To be a part of that would be fantastic, it would be an amazing experience, especially at a young age.

“You want to be able to be part of a winning team and to be 21-years-old and have the chance to win trophies is an exciting position to be in, so hopefully we can win trophies this year.”

If its silverware Musonda wants, he is in the right place. Celtic are nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and will play Championship side Greenock Morton for a place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

Like Musonda, Manchester City-owned Patrick Roberts is on loan at Celtic from a Premier League giant and he will eventually return south of the border with a far more impressive CV than when he arrived in January 2016.

Roberts has already won five trophies at Celtic and could make it seven by the end of this season. Musonda will be hoping to follow in his footsteps.
