Championship outfit Aston Villa can recall goalkeeper Jed Steer in January – and maybe they should after his outstanding display for Charlton Athletic.

Jed Steer’s future is up in the air right now.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan at Charlton Athletic, a deal that is due to last for the entire 2018/19 season. But the Birmingham Mail reports that parent club Aston Villa have the option to recall him in January, something manager Dean Smith is expected to discuss with goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler.
And if Smith and co watched Steer in action during Charlton’s 2-1 League One victory at Burton Albion on Tuesday, they will have been provided with a timely reminder of the shot-stopper’s talent.
Steer made a number of impressive stops before Jason Pearce nodded home in the 88th minute to give the Addicks a smash-and-grab win at the Pirelli Stadium with manager Lee Bowyer singing his praises, and not for the first time, after the final whistle.
“He was outstanding,” Bowyer told News Shopper of the former Norwich City ‘keeper.

“I thought he was excellent and some of the saves he made were very good.”
For the first time since a loan spell at Huddersfield Town in 2015/16, Steer is playing regular first-team football so staying at Charlton might be the better option for a goalkeeper who has spent too much time on the bench throughout his career.
The Express reports that Aston Villa are likely to sign Burnley’s third-choice stopper Tom Heaton in January, which would raise more questions about Steer’s immediate future.
