Michal Zyro left Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers for a loan spell at League One Charlton Athletic in the January transfer window.
The chances of Michal Zyro forcing his way into Wolverhampton Wanderers’ first-team plans next season look very slim.
A lot has changed at Molineux since the Polish winger arrived from Legia Warsaw in the January 2016 transfer window. Kenny Jackett was the Wolves manager at the time and they finished the season 14th in the Championship. These days, they are en route to the Premier League with some of the greatest players the second tier has ever seen.
But while Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa and co are heading for the top flight, Zyro has been criticised for his most recent performance on loan at League One Charlton Athletic.
The 25-year-old moved to The Valley in January after injuries restricted him to just seven league starts in two years as a Wolves player. While Zyro has been quite impressive for the most part, Charlton’s caretaker manager Lee Bowyer was less than impressed by his display in the 1-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night.
“I’ve told Michal I’m not happy with his performance,” Bowyer told the NewsShopper, while admitting he might have stretched Zyro too thin after he played 180 minutes in just three days.
“He’s been outstanding for me, but his performance wasn’t good enough. I’ll be honest with him, I’ve been honest with all the players in there and I always will be.
“At the end of the day, if you play well I’ll tell you you’ve played well, if you play badly I’ll tell you you’ve played badly. You’re men and you have to take it. You can’t just take the praise and not take the criticism.”
Zyro’s contract at Wolves runs until the summer of 2019 and it remains to be seen whether he has any future at all in the Black Country.
