Paul Smyth has made just three Championship appearances for Queens Park Rangers this season but could shine under Lee Bowyer in League One.

Paul Smyth signed a new contact with Queens Park Rangers this month, committing himself to the club until 2021.

But, according to West London Sport, he will have to wait for his chance under Steve McClaren and is set to spend the second half of this season out on loan.

The report claims that QPR’s London neighbours Charlton Athletic are hoping to sign the Northern Irish winger on loan, with Lee Bowyer’s side fighting for a place in the League One play-offs.

Speaking to London News Online, Bowyer has now confirmed that Smyth is indeed on his wish list.

“He is somebody that we’re interested in, along with a few others,” said the former West Ham and Newcastle midfielder.

“We are looking at a few to be honest but yes, his name is amongst the list.”

The Addicks are far from the only club interested in Smyth, however, with West London Sport claiming that a whole host of lower league sides are hoping for a favour from QPR.

A 2017 signing from Linfield, the right winger came off the bench for the final six minutes in Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat against Preston North End; the first time he had featured in the Championship since August.

So a temporary move away from QPR could serve him well, with McClaren preferring other options.
