Charlie Nicholas believes Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is the kind of signing Arsenal are crying out for this summer, while speaking to Sky Sports.

The Gunners are still a team in transition under Unai Emery, signs of real progress being blotted by three successive Premier League defeats against Crystal Palace, Wolves and Leicester over the last two weeks.

So more changes are expected over the summer, with Arsenal in need of a replacement for influential midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has already agreed to join Juventus on a four-year deal.

The North London giants have been linked with a whole host of talented play-makers, from Christopher Nkunku to Andre Gomes, but Nicholas believes that Rabiot is the man they need.

“We need a box-to-box style midfield player and a player that can pick a pass too, so it is a matter of bringing in the right ones,” said the former Scotland international, who represented Arsenal from 1983 to 1988.

“Adrien Rabiot will be a free-agent and been linked with different clubs, but I would take him. He has the quality and is of decent level, which Arsenal need.”

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Rabiot over the last 12 months or so, the Express claiming as recently as February that they were confident of beating Liverpool and Tottenham to a player who hasn’t featured for PSG since December due to his refusal to extend a contract that expires in July.

Unai Emery, who worked with Emery at the Parc des Princes, is a huge fan of the France international.
