Celtic’s Tom Rogic is an opportunity Leeds United cannot miss

Championship giants Leeds United failed in an attempt to bring Tom Rogic to Elland Road from Celtic in 2016.

Celtic have not given up hope in tying Tom Rogic down to a new contract but there may be a genuine concern that they will have to cash in on the Australian international as early as this summer.

Rogic’s current deal expires in the summer of 2019, and it is understood that he has rejected an extension as he is unhappy about the terms being offered and concerned by his potential game time following the arrival of Charly Musonda on loan from Chelsea, the World Game reports.

The report adds that Celtic value Rogic at about £4 million – which is hardly an eye-watering fee but a lot more than nothing.

Leeds United should be keeping a close eye on the situation, as a midfielder they were very keen to sign in the summer of 2016, per the Yorkshire Evening Post, faces an uncertain future.

The report claimed that Leeds valued the former Central Coast Mariners star around £1 million back then – but his value has quadrupled since as he developed into a key player at Parkhead due to his eye for the spectacular and impressive goalscoring rate from central midfield.

Two years on, Rogic would probably walk into Leeds’ starting XI, albeit perhaps as a deep-lying midfielder rather than a natural number ten.

He scored 12 goals in all competitions last season as Celtic sealed a domestic treble, including a stunning solo winner in the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen. Rogic is the sort of player who can change a game in an instance – the sort of player Leeds need after recently ending a run of 10 games without a win.

With director of football Victor Orta under real pressure with many of his unknown imports struggling, signing a player as decorated as Rogic should really galvanise all at Elland Road.
