The Hoops look a side reborn under Brendan Rodgers, with Brown back to his best in the centre of the park.

Celtic enforcer Scott Brown has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he and the resurgent Stuart Armstrong are proving to be the perfect midfield partnership.

Brendan Rodgers has revitalised a number of Hoops players since taking over from Ronny Deila in the summer, although Brown and Armstrong are two of the main beneficiaries of the former Liverpool man’s approach.

Armstrong himself admitted that the Northern Irishman’s decision to play him in his preferred central midfield role rather than shunting him out onto the wing a la Deila means he has finally been given the opportunity to prove his worth at Celtic Park, while simultaneously keeping Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton out of the side.

And captain Brown, who appears to be enjoying his most consistent campaign in a number of years, says he is reaping the rewards for his burgeoning partnership with the former Dundee United star.

“[Armstrong] is one of the first names on the team sheet and he’s scoring goals every week,” the 31-year-old told the Glasgow Evening Times.

“It’s great for us having him and Tom Rogic pushing on from midfield and scoring goals and I get to do all their dirty work which is lovely.

“[Armstrong has] been fantastic. His running ability is just unbelievable. He’s doing my running for me and it’s about time someone done it!

“It’s great to have Stuart and especially for Scotland as well to have a Scottish player coming through and doing well at the highest level.”

The 24-year-old has scored four times in seven Scottish Premiership starts this season, including a crucial goal in Celtic’s dramatic 4-3 win against Motherwell at the weekend, with his driving bursts proving crucial to Rodgers’ game plan while offering the perfect complement to Brown’s destructive habits.
