Scottish Premiership champions Celtic beat off a number of clubs from England to sign centre-back Jack Hendry from Dundee.

Brendan Rodgers was obviously very concerned that Celtic were about to miss out on Jack Hendry in the final few hours of the transfer window.

As reported by TEAMtalk, a number of clubs below the border were battling to sign the Dundee defender, including Premier League duo Bournemouth and Crystal Palace. The Daily Mail stated in December that Newcastle United and Southampton were fans, too.

So Rodgers issued a demand to the Celtic chiefs, instructing them not to miss out on Hendry. A few hours later, the 22-year-old was posing in green and white, to the tune of £1.5 million.

But it seems that rival fans are not too convinced by Hendry’s claims that he rejected a number of offers in order to put pen to paper with the reigning Scottish champions.

“There was a lot of interest from down south,” he said in quotes reported by the Daily Record. “But there was only one place I wanted to come and that was Celtic.”

Hendry adds that the lure of playing Champions League football shortly after leaving Wigan Athletic for a minimal fee was a major factor in his decision to remain in Scotland.

And this comes just days after manager Brendan Rodgers claimed that Celtic beat 24 clubs to the signature of Chelsea winger Charly Musonda, as reported by the Daily Record.

But while there was surely interest in the highly-rated Hendry, the Twittersphere appears to be trying to take this rising star of Scottish football down a peg or two.
