Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta’s Serie A winger Timothy Castagne in the January transfer window.

It is no secret that Celtic have been searching for a new right-back to take Mikael Lustig’s place at Parkhead.
But it seemed that the ideal signing slipped through their grasp in the summer when Cristiano Piccini swapped Sporting Lisbon for Valencia instead, moving to Spain for £7 million despite Brendan Rodgers making him his number one transfer target, according to the Daily Record.
Fortunately, however, Celtic appear to have identified another talented full-back with the January transfer window open – and he could prove to be a cheaper, and more inspired, addition than Piccini.
According to the Daily Record, the Hoops are preparing a £6 million bid for Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne. Now, the 23-year-old is hardly a household name but the fact he has forced his way into the Belgian national team, making two appearances for Roberto Martinez’s Rote Duivels, speaks volumes.

Castange is not only an impressive option going forward but a talented defender too, renowned for his tackling ability and positional sense.
Compared to Piccini, the attack-minded yet naïve right-back who has been caught out on a number of occasions in Valencia colours, Castagne could be a far more solid addition to a Celtic defence that has looked a little shaky at times in recent months.
