Kieran Tierney is Wolves’ most unnecessary reported transfer target

Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Celtic’s Scottish Premiership ace Kieran Tierney.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are the latest Premier League side linked with a move for Celtic star Kieran Tierney.

But unlike Tottenham, Bournemouth or an Everton side who are reportedly ready to bid £25 million according to the Mail, Wolves are hardly crying out for additions at left-back.

Spurs have been tipped to sell Danny Rose while Bournemouth could do with an upgrade on Charlie Daniels and Everton need a long-term successor for Leighton Baines.

Wolves, however, had arguably the best left-back in the Championship last season in Barry Douglas, and he shares a fair few similarities with Celtic’s number 63.

Douglas, like Tierney, is a Scottish full-back blessed with a wand of a left foot. An attack-minded and supremely modern player, the 28-year-old set up 14 goals as Wolves cruised to the second-tier title in 2017/18. No player in the Championship set up more goals than Douglas last season.

Ironically, the Mirror claimed that Celtic were keen on the former Dundee United ace before he joined Wolves from Konyaspor last summer for £1million. That would have put him in direct competition with Tierney but, should he swap Parkhead for Molineux, the pair could end up going head-to-head for a place after all.

That said, there are a number of players in Wolves’ title-winning squad who already look Premier League quality and do not need upgrading, and one of those is Douglas.
