Scottish Premiership champions Celtic loaned forward Ciaran Diver to Edinburgh City in the January transfer window after he failed to settle at Stranraer.

You have to feel for young Celtic forward Ciaran Diver.
The 18-year-old spent the first half of the 2018/19 season on loan at League One outfit Stranraer but, after failing to score in 10 appearances, joined Edinburgh City until the end of the campaign.
Following a difficult spell at Stranraer, Diver would have been hoping to make an immediate impact with the fourth-tier side, particularly as his Celtic contract is due to expire in the summer.
So it is fair to say he was left hugely disappointed after missing from the spot in Edinburgh City’s Challenge Cup defeat to Connar’s Quay last weekend, The Citizens crashing out on penalties.
“It was really disappointing I couldn’t make an impact,” Diver told Edinburgh News. “I felt confident. To be fair the whole time we were away I had a funny feeling it would go to penalties so I always had my mind on taking one.
As soon as the gaffer asked who wanted to take one I put my hand straight up.

“I want to make it up to the boys because I could see how gutted they were after having managed to get so far.”
In fairness to Diver, he pointed out that the miss has not dented his confidence and he’d be willing to step up immediately if he is given another chance from 12 yards.
The test now is whether the teenager can find some form in front of goal in an Edinburgh City shirt. He pointed out that they suit his playing style far more than a physical Stranraer outfit.
