Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly leading the race to sign Jason Denayer from Premier League outfit Manchester City

It’s not often anyone says this in August but Celtic could be verging on crisis territory. The Scottish Premiership champions were deservedly beaten by Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday before seeing their Champions League campaign brought to a premature end at the qualification stage by AEK Athens.
Suddenly, there are doubts about the futures of Dedryck Boyata, Olivier Ntcham and even manager Brendan Rodgers. The fans, then, are in need of a pick-me-up.
And the return of Jason Denayer could be exactly what the doctor ordered. The SPFA Young Player of the Year during his 2014/15 loan spell at Celtic, Nieuwsblad are claiming that the Hoops are leading Galatasaray and Torino in the race to sign the Manchester City defender.
Denayer would not only be a familiar face but the perfect addition to Celtic’s currently ailing squad. Jack Hendry and Kristoffer Ajer showed in the first leg AEK that they have a lot to learn, while Marvin Compper remains nowhere to be seen and Jozo Simunovic appears nowhere near his best.

And that is without mentioning Boyata, who seems desperate to leave this summer.
Should Celtic win the race for Denayer, they would not only be getting a very promising 23-year-old defender but the man who could spark their season into life and bring some much needed positivity to Parkhead.
