Few had heard of Borja Iglesias back in February.
The striker was plying his trade in the Spanish second tier back then, in outstanding form for Real Zaragoza while on loan from the Celta Vigo B team, and it was claimed that his prolific performances had caught the eye of Celtic.
Local paper El Periodico de Aragon claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops, as well as Swansea City, were keen to bring Iglesias to Britain.
A few months later, however, Celtic’s hopes were brought to an end when Espanyol snapped up the 25-year-old. But is it becoming clear for the first time that the Bhoys missed out on what could have been an outstanding bargain signing?
Iglesias has taken to life in La Liga like a duck to water and has scored six goals in ten starts for Espanyol so far, including four in his last three games.
El Gol Digital is now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to trigger his £25 million release clause, with Mauricio Pochettino identifying the Espanyol talisman as a potential back-up to Harry Kane.
Clearly, Iglesias has come a long way since plundering goal after goal in the second tier and catching the eye of Celtic.
