Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly tried and failed to sign Edson Alvarez from Liga MX outift Club America a few months ago.

Celtic failed with a bid of around £5 million for Mexican international Edson Alvarez in December, according to ESPN, with the Club America ace now being linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A versatile 21-year-old who plays in defence for his club and at centre-half at international level, Alvarez is expected to follow in the footsteps of fellow Mexican internationals Hirving Lozano, Erik Gutierrez and Andres Guardado by sealing a move to Europe this summer.
Mediotiempo claimed this week that Wolves have lined him up for a move to Molineux.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have apparently approached Alaves and Club America’s president to discuss whether a move might be possible for a player who has a release clause of just £7.9 million in his contract.
But Celtic appear to have missed their chance for good.

ESPN claims that the Scottish Premiership champions offered £5 million ahead of the January transfer window, a bid that Club America rejected out of hand.
Why Celtic did not raise their offer by £3 million and trigger his release clause remains a mystery. Perhaps he was simply too expensive.
But with Wolves’ billionaire owners keen to spend big again this summer, £8 million is merely a drop in the ocean at Molineux these days.
