Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have reportedly made a bid to sign Scotland international midfielder John McGinn from Hibernian

After months and months of speculation, Celtic have finally made their bid for John McGinn. But now we are about to find out how much the Hoops really want to sign the Hibernian talisman.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, Celtic have had an offer of £1.5 million rejected by Hibs for the 23-year-old Scotland international.

McGinn, an energetic and forward thinking midfielder, has been tipped as a long-term successor for Scott Brown for club and country, but it is understood that Celtic have identified him as a replacement for the Southampton-bound Stuart Armstrong in the centre of the park.

Celtic are expected to make another bid but will be forced to at least double their initial offer if they really want to bring McGinn to Parkhead.

Despite the fact he has just one year left on his contract, the Daily Record reports that Hibs will demand £4 million for their star man. Understandably, manager Neil Lennon hopes to keep McGinn at Easter Road after bidding farewell to fellow midfielders Dylan McGeouch and Scott Allan since the end of the season.

With £7 million in the bank from Armstrong’s sale, Celtic certainly have the money to meet Hibs’ valuation of McGinn. But it will be interesting to see whether Brendan Rodgers’ side is willing to offer at least £2.5 million more.

Although with clubs south of the border reportedly interested, Celtic cannot really afford to drag this out much longer.
