Scottish Premiership champions Celtic released Eamonn Brophy in 2011 – now he’s thriving with Steve Clarke’s Killie.
Eamonn Brophy produced one of the finest individual displays of this Scottish Premiership season before the international break.
The 22-year-old was absolutely on fire during Kilmarnock’s impressive 2-0 away win at Aberdeen. It was Brophy who opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick and he could have had a hat-trick of long-range belters if Dons ‘keeper Joe Lewis had not been in such impressive form between the sticks.
Brophy scored eight goals in his debut season with Killie last year but the early signs are that he could take his game to a new level altogether under Steve Clarke.
And if the in-form forward continues these electric displays into the New Year, Celtic should really consider rewarding him with a second chance at Parkhead.
Brophy played for Celtic’s youth teams between 2003 and 2011 but, according to the Scottish Sun, asked to leave after being told he was too small (yes, that really does still happen in this day and age).
But what the 5ft 9ins dynamo is lacking in stature, he is certainly making up for in speed and explosiveness. He is evolving into one of the brightest young prospects in Scottish footbal and just imagine what Brendan Rodgers could do with a player of this talent and potential.
There is a gap in Celtic’s attack now after Moussa Dembele left for Lyon and Brophy could put himself into consideration if he can replicate his Aberdeen display on a more regular basis.
