Dundee signed left-back Calvin Miller on loan from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in the summer transfer window.
Calvin Miller really needed to move away from Celtic this summer. Being the back-up left-back to Kieran Tierney, who is pretty much an ever present at Parkhead these days, is a thankless task after all.
And a season-long loan move to Dundee has certainly given Miller the chance to get some regular game-time under his belt for the first time in his fledgling career.
The 20-year-old was left out of Celtic’s squad for the first three games of the 2018/19 season but has now started the last two matches for Neil McCann’s Dundee, producing an assist on his debut against Motherwell.
Dundee have lost both games since Miller arrived, but the Glasgow-born youngster has impressed supporters with his swashbuckling runs down the left flank. And Miller admits that he is enjoying the new role he has been given at Dens Park.
“I feel like my strengths are going forward so I like the wing-back role more than left-back. From a boy, I’ve always been an attacking player so I’d say left wing-back is my role but I can definitely play left-wing as well,” Miller told the Evening Telegraph.
“Whichever way you want to put it, I like to go forward, take people on and get crosses in. That’s what the gaffer wants me to do and that’s why I’m happy to come and contribute to Dundee.
“The gaffer wants me to play a bit higher than I usually do for Celtic.”
The likes of Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie shone out on loan at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen respectively before returning to force their way into Celtic’s first-team plans, and Miller will be hoping that a similarly impressive spell at Dundee will catch Brendan Rodgers’ eye.
