Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool reportedly want to bring James Forrest to the Premier League from Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.
It is about time that James Forrest got the attention he deserved.
Celtic have lost so many of their star players to clubs south of the border in recent years from Gary Hooper to Ki Sung-Yueng, Victor Wanyama to Virgil van Dijk. Forrest, however, has been largely absent from the gossip columns throughout his career.
Until recently that is.
According to the Scottish Sun over the weekend, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been tracking a winger in the form of his life right now. Forrest has scored 11 goals and assisted 17 more for Celtic this season and it’s a sign of his progress that he is apparently interesting the club four points clear at the top of the Premier League.
But the Scottish Sun’s claims that Forrest could move to Anfield for just £8 million haven’t gone down too well with former Hoops hero John Hartson.
“£8m? That might get you his big toe. The money quoted for him is laughable,” Hartson told the Evening Times.
“We are talking about a boy who has scored goals at international and Champions League level and who has blossomed into a winger who guarantees double-figure goals.
“So spare me the £8m chat. (Liverpool) would need to triple that number just to get Celtic interested.”
Forrest only signed a new four-year deal as recently as September, meaning Brendan Rodgers’ side would be able to demand a huge fee should Liverpool come knocking.
And, as impressive as the Scotland international has been this season, he would surely only be a back-up option at a Liverpool side who can already call upon Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri.
