Feyenoord’s Eredivisie champion Miquel Nelom ticks a lot of boxes for Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic – but the Championship is a likelier destination, as the player is reportedly a Birmingham City target.
Miquel Nelom could be about to swap the Champions League for the Championship – at Birmingham City.
The two-time Dutch international, who played in Europe’s premiere club competition for the Rotterdam giants this season, is out of contract in the summer and Feyenoord are willing to listen to offers to ensure they don’t lose Nelom on a free.
And it is understood that the 27-year-old is open to a move to England – possibly even to a Birmingham City side sitting just one place off the bottom of the Championship.
But with a move to St Andrews’ a strong possibility, Celtic should consider making a new move for Nelom before it’s too late.
And while Keiran Tierney has continued his remarkable rate of progress at Celtic, there’s a lack of an experienced alternative in Brendan Rodgers’ squad, with unproven youngster Calvin Miller the club’s only other left-back.
Nelom is also versatile enough to fill in at centre-half – a position Celtic need to strengthen, after Erik Sviatchenko sealed a loan move to former club FC Midtjylland.
Cheap, adaptable and experienced, Nelom ticks a lot of boxes for Celtic. But they face missing out for good with Birmingham City said to be stepping up their pursuit.
