Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side are believed to be in competition with Newcastle United for Tammy Abraham.
According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Celtic have joined the race for Tammy Abraham – and they may have an advantage over all their rivals for the Chelsea youngster’s signature.
Abraham has attracted the attentions of Swansea City, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion, with Chelsea willing to loan him out.
But Celtic have announced their interest in Abraham at the last minute, to throw a late twist in the saga.
Abraham is believed to be set to make his mind up on which team to join after the European under-21 Championships, as he is currently representing England at the national tournament in Poland.
Celtic could face a tough task to convince Abraham to move to them over the clutch of Premier League clubs chasing him, but they do hold one key advantage, as they have Champions League football to offer the youngster.
The Bhoys will, of course, have to progress through qualifying to make it into the Champions League, but Rodgers side will be confident of getting there – after dominating Scottish football last term.
And with Celtic being able to provide Abraham with the chance to perform on the biggest European stage, that must be a tempting prospect for the 19-year-old.
The likes of Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts have seen the benefits of rejecting Premier League interest to pick Celtic, and Abraham may be making a smart choice to do the same.
If Abraham did join the Bhoys it would be a serious statement of intent from Rodgers’ side, ahead of the new season.
