Celtic took their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a 5-1 thrashing of Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock at Parkhead.

A Celtic side who have apparently been in crisis for large spells of this season are suddenly sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

With Hearts collapsing and Rangers stuttering, Brendan Rodgers’ side thumped Kilmarnock 5-1 at Parkhead on Saturday to re-claim their place at the top of the pile. Celtic are two points clear with a game in hand on Rangers, two on Killie and Hearts.

And arguably Celtic’s finest domestic performance of the season has been reflected in Chris Sutton’s latest Team of the Week for BT Sport.

Posting the line up on his official Twitter account, Sutton has included four Hoops players in his XI.

Few could dispute the inclusion of Forrest and Christie, who scored three of Celtic’s five goals against Kilmarnock. And Sutton has also paid tribute to Callum McGregor, who was once again outstanding in the deep lying midfield role.

It was the Scot’s pinpoint free kick which set up Mikael Lustig’s goal and, suddenly, it is difficult to see when captain Scott Brown will re-claim his place in the starting XI.

Emilio Izaguirre, meanwhile, shone in his first league start since returning to Scotland from a spell in the Middle East. The 32-year-old left-back, deputising for Kieran Tierney, played a major part in Forrest’s first-half opener and proved that Rodgers is able to rest his star man over the next few months.

But this does not mean the Celtic fans were entirely happy. Responding to Sutton on Twitter, many supporters made it clear that they think centre-back Filip Benkovic deserved a place after another excellent performance.
