Birger Meling’s Rosenborg lost to Dinamo Zagreb in Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier but is he now heading to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic?

It seems that many a Celtic fan was on a self-imposed scouting mission on Wednesday night.
With Birger Meling in action for Rosenborg during their Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb, the Parkhead faithful weren’t going to miss a chance to potentially see Kieran Tierney’s replacement in action.
And, despite a 2-0 defeat which puts Rosenborg’s hopes of a place at Europe’s top table in serious jeopardy, Meling appears to have come out of a damaging defeat with plenty of credit.

The Norway international, who has been linked with the Premiership champions by the Scottish Sun, certainly has big shoes to fill at Parkhead following Kieran Tierney’s £25 million move to Arsenal. But like a modern-day Celtic legend, Meling is an impressive all-round full-back who’s equally effective at either end of the pitch.
At least, that’s the impression he’s given to the Celtic fans desperate for a tantalising glimpse into the future.
Speaking to VG last week, the one-time Middlesbrough youngster admitted that it would be difficult to walk away from Rosenborg if they qualified for the Champions League group stages.
So a 2-0 first-leg defeat might have just pushed Meling one step closer to the exit door.
