Premier League champions Manchester City have sent winger Patrick Roberts to La Liga – rather than back to the Scottish Premiership with Celtic

So the dream is dead. Patrick Roberts will not be a Celtic player in the 2018/19 season.
The Manchester City winger has instead joined Girona on loan, joining the La Liga overachievers after a protracted transfer saga that finally reached it’s conclusion on Thursday afternoon.
And, as you might expect, Celtic fans are struggling to come to terms with the fact that the little winger won’t be wearing green and white again any time soon. Roberts was a big hit at Celtic and spent two-and-a-half years at Parkhead, winning the Scottish Premiership title on three occasions.

To make matters worse, a worrying start to the 2018/19 campaign shows that Roberts is already being missed in Glasgow.
The Hoops missed his skill, creativity and unpredictability in Saturday’s defeat to Hearts, not to mention both legs of the Champions League qualification defeat to Greek champions AEK Athens.
On the other hand, you can see why City wanted Roberts to continue his career elsewhere. A spell in Spain should take Roberts out of his comfort zone and help broaden his horizons and there is a feeling that he’s achieved all he can at Celtic.

But that doesn’t mean his move to Girona hasn’t left fans a little bit heartbroken.
