Jeremie Frimpong is already repaying his £350k fee after leaving Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Jeremie Frimpong looked and sounded like a man whose dream had just come true this week. There is a good reason for that.

After rising through the ranks at Manchester City, the young right-back walked away from the Premier League champions to join Celtic in September in an initial £350,000 million deal (Sun). Just weeks later, the 18-year-old was sampling the sweet taste of professional football for the very first time.;

And talk about making a good first impression.

Frimpong was nothing short of brilliant in Wednesday’s 5-0 Betfred Cup thrashing of Partick Thistle, providing the kind of pace and drive down the right-hand side that Celtic have been missing for years.

After the game, Frimpong spoke excitedly to STV, his eyes gleaming and every word full of pride.

Far from staring down the lens with a dead-eyed glare, Air Pods in and looking like he’d rather be anywhere else, it seems that Frimpong’s infectious playing style and matched by his personality.

“Oh, it was amazing,” he said. “A dream come true. It was my first professional game and it was amazing.

“The fans; oh my gosh I love them already. Just to hear them when I came off. Amazing.

“I knew Celtic were the best team in Scotland so I was like ‘Yes! I’m going to the best team’ so when we play teams it’ll be good because Celtic always win. So I’m going to be on the winning team. So that’s good.”

Extremely likeable and obscenely talented, everything Frimpong has done and said has been pretty much on the money so far.
