Would Celtic be making a mistake if they sell Eboue Kouassi?

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic paid £3million for Eboue Kouassi but he could reportedly be about to leave Parkhead already.

If Brendan Rodgers is renowned for one thing, it is his ability to put young players on the path to stardom as well as help those whose careers have stalled get back on track.

The likes of Kieran Tierney, Joe Allen, Raheem Sterling, Luis Suarez, Jordan Henderson and Moussa Dembele all developed considerably under the Northern Irishman, whose commendable ability to spot qualities few others can see has made him one of the most respected coaches in Britain.

It might come as a surprise to learn then that Celtic could consider cashing in on Eboue Kouassi this summer, just 18 months after he joined from FC Krasnodar in Russia for a fee of £3 million, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

Eboue has struggled to make an impression at Parkhead, starting just five games in all competitions last season as he slipped down the pecking order. And it is understood that he has admirers from clubs in Belgium, France and Germany.

It is understood that Eboue, who was a regular in Russia for Krasnodar and has already represented the Ivory Coast at senior level, is keen to play more football. While a loan move is on the cards, the report adds that Celtic could even sell the tenacious ankle-biter.

But would Rodgers come to regret that? Eboue is one of the future and, at just 20, he is obviously a raw talent with plenty of time on his side.

In fairness, Eboue did impress when given the chance last season, particularly in the Europa League round-of-32 win against Zenit St Petersburg. And Rodgers must remember that Scott Brown, at 32, cannot go on forever while both Callum McGregor and Stuart Armstrong have been linked with a move to the Premier League.

There could be a place in Celtic’s plans for Eboue very soon and selling him now could come back to haunt Rodgers.
