Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have been reportedly checking out Boro’s Dael Fry.
Celtic need a centre-back, a left-back and a right-back this summer.
Mikael Lustig, Dedryck Boyata and Emilio Izaguirre are all out of contract after all, while Filip Benkovic is expected to return to Leicester City when his loan spell with the Scottish Premiership champions comes to an end.
But just imagine if Celtic signed a defender capable of playing in all three positions across the back line. Maybe they have already found him.
According to TEAMtalk, the Glasgow giants have been keeping tabs on highly-rated Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry. And, while Boro are hardly planning to sell their coveted academy graduate, who has also caught the eye of Chelsea, Tottenham and Bournemouth, they may not have much of a choice if they fail to secure a Championship play-off place.
Fry is not only a commanding centre-half but possesses a superb range of passing, meaning he would fit in at a Celtic side who are renowned for their ability to dominate the ball. And his impressive versatility could come in handy, too.
Fry is most comfortable in the centre but he’s also made nine league starts at right-back while filling in effectively on the left when required.
The 21-year-old produced a fine display on the left as Boro kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s vital win against Hull City.
“Dael has been brilliant in respect of him having to move around in different positions,” Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis told the Northern Echo.
So, while Celtic would have to pay big to take Fry north of the border, they would also be getting three players in one.
