Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are a point and two places ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Rangers will know that they will more than likely need to beat Hibernian at Easter Road on Wednesday night to retain their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Steven Gerrard’s side soared back into first at the weekend, taking full advantage of Celtic’s shock 2-0 defeat against Neil Lennon’s side.
Now, Rangers are next up for Hibs while Celtic host Motherwell hoping to get back to winning ways. As it stands, The Gers are a point clear of their Old Firm rivals with Kilmarnock sandwiched in between, though The Hoops have a game in hand.
However, speaking to Herald Scotland, Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he isn’t exactly losing any sleep about the prospect of Rangers topping the table on Christmas day.
“You look at the league and you see it’s tight which I’ve always said is good,” said the former Liverpool boss. “Of course, when there’s competition there that’s good for you.
“But we always look at our own game because what Rangers do is irrelevant to us. We have to do our own job and play to our own standards.

“It’s tighter this year of course. But like I say we’re in a very good position and if we can take that into the second part of the season I’ll be very happy.”
Celtic are still very well placed to secure an eighth successive Scottish Premiership title in 2019 though Rangers will be dreaming of bringing an end to The Hoops’ domestic dominance.
And while Rangers are far from the finished article under Gerrard, the prospect of topping the table heading into the New Year highlights how far they have come under the former Liverpool captain.
