Marvin Compper departed RB Leipzig and the Bundesliga to move to the Scottish Premiership with Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in the January transfer window.

Marvin Compper’s Celtic career hasn’t really got going so far.
The Hoops signed the 32-year-old from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig for about £1 million in the January transfer window – an eye-brow raising move from a club renowned for building their transfer policy around improving young talent.
Compper, who had fallen down the pecking order at Leipzig, looked like a useful addition due to his experience, leadership qualities and ability to play out from the back.

So far, however, injury has restricted the one-time German international to a single appearance, coming in the Scottish Cup quarter-final win against Morton.
Though claims that Celtic beat off competition from a number of top-tier German outfits should at least give the fans some belief that Compper will prove to be an astute addition.
“He could have stayed in the Bundesliga, a few clubs were keen on him,” Leipzig sporting coordinator Frank Aehlig, a close friend of Compper, told the Daily Record. “It isn’t always easy to find the qualities you need in a defender but Marvin has them all.”

Obviously, teams in Germany still felt that Compper could do a job. It is worth remembering that he was a regular in a Leipzig team which shocked the nation by finishing second to Bayern Munich in their debut Bundesliga season last year.
So Compper could be worth the wait in the end.
