Chelsea’s Tomas Kalas has been linked with a move to Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers and Celtic.
Celtic and Rangers fans might have got their first look at Tomas Kalas over the weekend.
According to the Sun, the Old Firm giants have both watched the Chelsea-owned centre-back of late ahead of a potential move to Scotland in the summer. Kalas, who bizarrely enough counts as The Blues’ longest serving player, will reportedly cost £5 million.
But Kalas did not produce a £5 million performance at Wembley. The Czech Republic were battered 5-0 by England in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier and Kalas’s nightmare own goal rather summed up a dreadful performance from the visitors.
He was all at sea as Callum Hudson-Odoi’s drive deflected into his path, miscuing a simple clearance as it rolled horribly into the back of the Czech’s net.
No wonder fans on Twitter were quick to mock the former Middlesbrough loanee.
But it would be unfair for Celtic and Rangers fans to write off Kalas for one mistake. He has had a fine season in the Championship on loan at Bristol City and mistakes like this have been few and far between under Lee Johnson in England’s second tier.
Kalas has been a solid and reliable presence for a Bristol City team with their eyes firmly fixed on the play-offs. If you judged all players on one mistake then everyone’s reputation would be in tatters by now.
