West Ham United are reportedly edging nearer to a £35million deal that would see La Liga striker Gomez move to the Premier League.
Maxi Gomez appears to be edging closer to a big-money move to West Ham United with the Galicia Press reporting on Thursday that the striker is set to leave Celta Vigo.
The Hammers have been linked with a number of strikers during the January transfer window while Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez have all been tipped to depart. But Gomez, a Uruguayan international who has been likened to compatriot Luis Suarez, has emerged as the most likely addition in recent days.
Galicia Press claim that West Ham are closing in on a £35 million move for a great ox of a centre-forward who has scored 28 goals in 51 La Liga starts since signing for Celta Vigo in the summer of 2017.
But it seems that nothing is guaranteed yet. In quotes reported by Football London, Celta’s sporting director Felipe Minambres has re-affirmed the club’s determination to hang onto their star players – including Gomez.
“I believe that we will retain our most important players because it is the intention of the club to be strong,” said the former Real Madrid player.
“(But) with the English you never know. They can always pay the release clause.”
Gomez has a clause in his contract worth £43.5 million, a fee that would make him the most expensive signing in West Ham’s history, ahead of the former Lazio winger Felipe Anderson.
