Carlos Pena managed just a few months in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers

Rangers’ loaned out midfielder Carlos Pena is a target for a number of clubs this summer, the Mexican international’s agent has said in quotes reported by the Daily Record.

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers paid £2.2 million to sign Pena from Guadalajara last summer but, despite netting five goals for the Ibrox club, he struggled to settle in Britain and returned to his homeland in January.

Pena joined Cruz Azul, reuniting with his former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha but struggled to make an impression, starting just twice and failing to score a goal.

But the 28-year-old’s agent, Salvador Necochea, insists that Pena is still on the radar of potential suitors with his Rangers career appearing to be over already.

“Already some teams have expressed an interest in him because that they know Carlos is trying to resume his life and career,” Nechochea said of Pena, who is understood to have voluntarily entered himself into a Mexican rehab to tackle problems off the field.

“We will communicate with Rangers to see if we can resolve the matter of the remainder of his contract.”

Rangers are planning a clear out of their fringe players this summer, according to the Scottish Sun, with the likes of Dalcio, Andy Halliday and Michael O’Halloran understood to be on their way out of Ibrox.

And it seems that Pena would be better off drawing a line under his unfortunate spell in Scotland. The fact that he could be offered an escape route by one of a number of clubs should make this easier.
