Aston Villa loanee Callum O’Hare scored his second League Two goal in Carlisle’s 3-2 win against Bury but is he ready for the Championship?

Carlisle United defender Anthony Gerrard has raved about Callum O’Hare after the Aston Villa loanee produced another sparkling performance for the League Two outfit over the weekend, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

Arguably the most exciting talent in Aston Villa’s academy made the move to Carlisle in January in the hope that a loan spell in the lower divisions would prove that he is ready to make his mark on the men’s game.

And O’Hare has certainly made an impression. The 20-year-old has stood out thanks to his quick feet and impressive vision and he was integral as Carlisle came from behind to beat Bury 3-2 on Saturday, scoring his second goal for the club before playing a key role in the winner.

After game, 33-year-old Gerrard did not hold back in his praise of a player who looks a cut above in the fourth tier.

“Great performance today from the boys, Callum O’Hare has got serious, serious ability and was brilliant,” said the former Huddersfield and Cardiff defender.

Given that Aston Villa manager Dean Smith was integral to the rise of Ollie Watkins, Neal Maupay, Chris Mepham and co at former club Brentford, O’Hare could come on leaps and bounds under the 48-year-old in the Midlands.
