Derby County had reportedly identified Bobby Reid as the replacement for Leeds United target Matej Vydra – the former is now joining Cardiff City.

Have Leeds United’s hopes of signing Matej Vydra just taken a hit?
The Derby Telegraph reported last week that the West Yorkshire giants had made an enquiry about the potential availability of the Championship’s current Golden Boot holder. Vydra, who the YEP believe will cost £10 million, scored 21 goals in the second tier last season.
And it seemed that Leeds were in luck.

The Sun (24 June, page 60) reported that Derby had identified Bristol City’s Bobby Reid as the ideal replacement for their bleach-blonde Czech talisman. Reid has just come off the back of an outstanding individual season in which he finished just two goals short of Vydra in the scoring charts.
And The Sun reported that, if Derby were to sign Reid, they would have to sell Vydra to make room and raise funds. Unfortunately for both Leeds and The Rams, however, it appears that the East Midland club’s best laid plans have gone awry.

But what does this mean for Leeds? Will Derby now be more reluctant to sell Vydra now the player they had chosen as his perfect replacement has slipped through their net?
Leeds fans have been getting a little impatient as the rumours rumble on and it seems they’ll have to wait a little longer now. Could Neil Warnock just have delivered a big blow to Leeds’ hopes of signing the Championship’s most lethal striker?
