Wolverhampton Wanderers narrowly missed out on signing PSV’s Eredivisie star Jurgen Locadia – but now must surely target Everton-linked Hirving Lozano.
No one in the history of the Eredivisie had ever scored seven goals in his first eight games – until Hirving Lozano rocked up at PSV Eindhoven in a £7 million summer move from Pachuca, that is.
In fact, the Mexican winger has been so impressive at the Philipps Stadium that he is already being linked with a huge move to the Premier League. Super Deportivo have linked a resurgent Everton with Lozano, and you can see exactly why they would be interested.
The Toffees are lacking real creativity, speed and goal threat out wide and Lozano boasts all three attributes in abundance. He has ten goals in 15 games for PSV, plus six assists, and has thrilled the entire watching public with his electrifying performances.
But with Championship leaders Wolves regular watchers of the Dutch top flight in recent months, do they have the clout to join the race for arguably the league’s top performer?
Per the Express and Star, Wolves were close to landing Lozano’s PSV sparring partner Jurgen Locadia for £10 million in the summer, but even he – despite scoring nine times in 15 games – has been overshadowed by Lozano this season.
And with super-agent Jorge Mendes pulling the strings and Fosun International providing a seemingly limitless supply of cash, Wolves have shown in recent months that they can, and will, lure truly elite talents to Molinuex.
Lozano wouldn’t need to worry about playing Championship football either – if he joins the league leaders, promotion to the Premier League would look even more inevitable.
But if Wolves do want to bring in an Eredivisie attacker in January, Lozano surely stands out from the crowd.
