Can Sunderland sign three new players but spend only £250k?

Sunderland are reportedly targeting three League One talents: Blackpool’s Clark Robertson, Wimbledon’s Lyle Taylor and Scunthorpe’s Hakeeb Adelakun.

Sunderland’s best laid plans appear to be coming together.

According to the Sun, the Black Cats had put together a list of affordable, proven League One talents who could help the fallen giants challenge for promotion and return to the relative big time as soon as possible. And Sunderland have now been linked with an astute triple-deal that would not cost them a penny.

The Sunderland Echo has reported that the North East club want to sign 24-year-old Blackpool centre-back Clark Robertson, who is available on a free this summer with his contract about to run down.

The left-footed defender won Blackpool’s Player of the Year award last season and Jack Ross is a big fan of the fellow Scot, who he once tried to sign for St Mirren. It is understood that Sunderland, along with a number of other suitors, have already made contact.

This comes a few hours after the Mail reported Sunderland’s interest in the AFC Wimbledon talisman Lyle Taylor. A 6ft 2ins striker who plays international football for Montserrat, Taylor scored 18 goals in League One last season and is also out of contract.

And do not forget Hakeeb Adelakun. The Sun states that Sunderland are rivalling Nottingham Forest and Hull City for the Scunthorpe United attacker, who assisted 15 goals in the third tier last season. After rejecting a new deal, he could be available for a compensation fee of just £250,000.

Just imagine if Sunderland can sign all three for nothing more than a pocket change fee.
