Steven Naismith was reportedly desperate to return to Rangers in January but he joined Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts instead.
Steven Naismith was so desperate to get a second chance at Rangers that he was even willing to play for the Glasgow giants for free. That is according to the Scottish Sun anyway, who believed that the former Ibrox favourite was keen to return to the club he left back in 2012.
Naismith was soon to be let go by Norwich City and, by the time the January transfer window shut, he had indeed returned to Scotland. But not with Rangers.
The 32-year-old signed for top flight rivals Hearts instead and, although Rangers look a far better side now under Steven Gerrard, Naismith has certainly shown his former employers what they are missing.
He’s in the form of his life right now, having scored nine times in just 12 games for Craig Levein’s side. As a result, Hearts are flying high at the top of the Premiership table, six points ahead of Celtic and eight above Rangers.
And Naismith has the perfect opportunity to show why Rangers were wrong to overlook him nine months ago. Hearts travel to Ibrox on Sunday hoping to maintain their rather unexpected lead at the top of the table.
And Naismith’s intelligence, vision and ability to find pockets of space could certainly cause problems to a Rangers side which looked a little passive in their defeat at Livingston last weekend.
