Former Derby County striker Jerome suggests he had offers from Championship trio Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United.
Cameron Jerome has suggested that Derby County blocked him from joining Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United or West Bromwich Albion last summer, as reported by the Sun.
The 32-year-old striker joined Derby from Norwich City in January 2018 for a fee of £1.5 million, according to Sky Sports, but he would spend just a few months at Pride Park.
Jerome scored five goals in 18 Championship games for the Rams and quickly found himself out of favour once Frank Lampard replaced Gary Rowett in the Pride Park dugout.
Unsurprisingly, there was plenty of interest in a player who has a proven track record in the second tier, winning promotion with both Norwich and Birmingham.
Speaking to Derbyshire Live, then-Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka indicated that he was keen to bring Jerome to the City Ground.
And, speaking to the Sun, the veteran striker has suggested that there were offers on the table from Sheffield United and West Brom but Derby had no interest in letting him join a promotion rival.
“I was looking forward to working with Lampard. But he changed his mind on me, it was a bit of a surprise, but no hard feelings at all,” Jerome said.
“They wouldn’t let me go to a rival and I was stuck there with a year left on my contract. I couldn’t go to Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United or West Brom.”
Jerome is currently playing for Goztepe in the Turkish top flight although he has hardly set the world alight in new surroundings, scoring four goals in 23 games.
