Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly want to re-sign centre-back Jason Denayer from Premier League giants Manchester City.

Celtic made Odsonne Edouard the most expensive player in their history this summer when they paid PSG £9 million to sign the striker on a permanent basis, according to Sky Sports.

And if the Scottish Premiership champions want to bring Jason Denayer back to Parkhead, they would have to pay a similar fee. According to Sporx, Manchester City are demanding £9 million for the Belgian defender, who has been linked with a surprise return to Glasgow.

Gianluca Di Marzio have reported that Celtic are indeed interested in signing Denayer and face a battle with Serie A outfit Torino. And even if £9 million would be a very hefty fee, the 23-year-old could be worth every penny.

For one, he has already proven himself in Scotland. Denayer spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Celtic and ended the campaign with a league and cup double, not to mention the SPFA Young Player of the Year award.

And Celtic certainly need a centre-back too. Recent clashes against AEK Athens and Hearts have highlighted a potential lack of leadership at the back and, to make matters’ worse, Dedryck Boyata looks set to leave on a free next summer or perhaps even before the end of this month.

Denayer would be a terrific replacement for his compatriot. And if Brendan Rodgers can work his magic and help Denayer take his game to another level, his £9 million fee could be doubled in a year or two.
