Nathan Broadhead won Everton’s U23 Player of the Year award after starring in the Toffees’ Premier League 2 title-winning campaign.
Nathan Broadhead was named Everton’s U23 Player of the Year as the Toffees won an unprecedented double at youth level last season. But this is the year where he will really establish himself as the club’s latest rising star.
After shining against the kids, Broadhead has now been given the chance to prove that he can make the difference against battle-scarred veterans and established professionals with a loan spell at League One outfit Burton Albion.
And what a start he’s made. In only his second appearance for the Brewers, the 21-year-old Welshman was the hero in a 2-1 win away at Gillingham.
Broadhead cancelled out The Gills’ opener with a perfectly placed curling finish into the far corner before netting the winner just three minutes later, ghosting into the box to tap in the most typical of poacher’s finishes.
“He’ll remember today for a long time,” Burton manager Nigel Clough told the Evening Express.
“He’s been curling a few goals in like his opener today throughout the week in training. It was a lovely goal.
“We’re more impressed with his second goal, to be honest – the way he got from the position he was in to tap the ball in was promising. He’ll get more goals if he continues to do that.”
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo earlier in the year, the always eager Everton coach David Unsworth admitted that he couldn’t be happier with Broadhead’s progress, describing the Bangor-born forward as one of the best players he’s ever worked with.
And you can guarantee that head coach Marco Silva will be keeping a close eye on Broadhead’s performances in League One. More displays like that match-winning performance against Gillingham will do his hopes of a future role at Everton no harm whatsoever.
