Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wanted to bring Ben Mee to North London last year with the Burnley defender impressing in the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur are under no illusions that a new defender might be a necessity during the summer transfer window.
It is well documented that Toby Alderweireld could be on his way out of North London given that he will be available for just £25 million, thanks to a release clause that is set to become active at the end of the season (the Guardian).
Spurs may need to replace their influential Belgian, although that is easier said than done. Calciomercato claimed this week that they have held talks with Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen and are willing to pay £23 million to bring him to England.
But are Tottenham set to come up against another potential Alderweireld replacement this weekend?
The Sun (25 March, page 63) reported last year that Tottenham were plotting a £20 million bid for Burnley’s Ben Mee. And he is expected to start as Spurs travel to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Should the long-serving Englishman impress, there is no reason why he could not play his way onto Tottenham’s radar again with the transfer window open in just a few months.
At 29, he is not the typical Daniel Levy signing but he would add experience and proven Premier League quality – unlike Andersen.
