Should Leeds make a move for George Boyd?

There will surely be no shortage of suitors for George Boyd this summer.

Leaving Burnley upon the expiry of his contract, the 31-year-old will be an attractive proposition for a number of Championship clubs on the lookout for a winger capable of balancing perspiration with plenty of inspiration.

The Sun claimed last month that Derby County were interested after a number of their wideman, particularly Abdoul Camara and Johnny Russell, failed to convince last season.

And the Birmingham Mail reports that Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce, who brought Boyd to Hull City in 2013, will make an offer this summer after missing out in January.

Signing Boyd, who has won promotions with both Hull and Burnley in the last four years, would surely help two of the Championship’s most illustrious clubs in their bid to return to the Premier League next season.

But if there’s one side who are crying out for added creativity, it’s Leeds United. After all, their overreliance upon the subtle artistry of Pablo Hernandez always seemed a problem in waiting – and so it proved with the Spaniard’s dip in form coinciding with a collapse that cost Leeds a place in the play-offs.

Therefore, the energetic Boyd could be an excellent addition on the left-hand side – particularly with Alfonso Pedraza returning to Villarreal upon the expiry of his loan. And the former Peterborough United talisman would surely represent an upgrade on the workmanlike Stuart Dallas or the divisive Souleymane Doukara.

Boyd scored five and set up another five to aid Burnley’s promotion push in 2015/16 – and the prospect of a similar impact at Elland Road should convince owner Andrea Radrizzani to finally kick Leeds into life in the transfer market.
