Another Championship winger has been linked with Leeds United – Bristol City’s Republic of Ireland international Callum O’Dowda.

Just a few days after The Sun (13 January, page 59) claimed that Leeds United were interested in the Swansea City duo Jefferson Montero and Daniel James, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have suddenly been linked with a another Championship winger.

Sky Sports believe that Leeds also have an interest in the tricky Bristol City forward Callum O’Dowda, with the league-leaders hoping to sign a wide man before the end of the month.

The Republic of Ireland international has enjoyed an impressive season for Lee Johnson’s Robins, providing three assists for a Bristol City side who are now just a place outside the top six.

And, in quotes reported by Bristol Live, Robins’ assistant coach Dean Holden has offered his assessment on reports linking O’Dowda with a mid-season switch to Elland Road.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” Holden said. “Callum’s had a good season up to now. He’s a player who wants to learn and he’s pretty much like everyone else we’ve got in the squad.

“He’s not the finished article. He’s a good player but he’s got things to work on as well, and he knows that. He’s got the right attitude to do that.”

O’Dowda, who moved to Ashton Gate from Oxford United in 2016, certainly has plenty of room for improvement and the fact that he has started just 12 league games this season reflects this.

And he wouldn’t come cheap either, despite the fact that he has just 18 months left on his contract. The Bristol Post believe that The Robins will demand up to £10 million, a fee that would make him Leeds’ biggest signing since Robbie Fowler arrived 18 years ago.
