Southampton’s Premier League outcast Steven Davis has been linked with a return to Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in January.

The prospect of Steven Davis returning to Ibrox in the January transfer window has really captured the imagination among the Rangers fanbase.
Steven Gerrard has made vast improvements to a side that underachieved spectacularly under Pedro Caixinha and Mark Warburton and the former Liverpool skipper has undoubtedly been aided by the returns of Allan McGregor and Kyle Lafferty to Ibrox.
And reports from the Express (16 October) stating that Davis too could make an emotional homecoming has only raised expectations that a shock title challenge could be on the cards this season.

But for all the romanticism of Davis’ potential return, the cynics will argue that his best days are behind him – and the fact that he’s made just one Premier League appearance all season for Southampton suggested that he could arrive at Ibrox a little rusty.
Though the 33-year-old’s performance in the goalless friendly between the Northern Ireland and the Republic in Dublin in Thursday showed that Davis still has plenty left to offer.
A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to rave about the former Aston Villa and Fulham midfielder – who dominated the game, showed that class is permanent and has seemingly done his chances of a second spell at Ibrox no harm at all.
