Everton looked almost certain to bring Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa to Goodison Park but Premier League rivals Brighton cannot be discounted yet.
Everton looked to have a deal to sign Ezri Konsa all tied up this month.
London News Online stated a week ago that the Toffees were closing in on a £4 million deal to sign the Charlton Athletic centre-back. Everton had tracked Konsa for a number of months and even tried to bring him to Goodison Park in the summer, but now it appeared they had got their man.
Seven days later, however, Konsa is still not an Everton player. Now, he may never be.
The Seagulls’ hopes of survival are built on a solid defence and Konsa would add depth and potential behind Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.
The report adds that Charlton’s controversial owner Roland Duchatelet is ready to cash in on Konsa this month and Everton were in pole position to get the deal over the line.
It appears, however, that their dawdling has cost them, giving Brighton encouragement in their attempts to gatecrash a deal that looked done just seven days ago.
Everton are putting together a crop of highly-talented youngsters but the chances of Konsa joining Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny and Beni Baningime at Goodison Park appears to be hanging in the balance.
