Could Ezequiel Schelotto drop down to the Championship with Queens Park Rangers after failing to start a Premier League game this season?
A week ago, reports in Italy claimed that Queens Park Rangers were hoping to snap up a Premier League outcast on loan.
Tuttomercatoweb claimed that QPR had entered talks with Brighton and Hove Albion right-back Ezequiel Schelotto, who has not made a single Premier League appearance all season.
Serie A outfit SPAL, meanwhile, were reportedly keen to offer the former Inter Milan man a return to Italy.
Today, Brighton manager Chris Hughton has shed light on Schelotto’s situation – and it makes for promising reading for QPR fans.
“The only one who would go out on loan would be (defender Markus) Suttner. That’s probably the only one I see, although Schelotto is another one who will possibly go out on loan,” Hughton told the Brighton and Hove Independent.
Schelotto moved to The Amex for £2.5 million from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2017 (Goal) and he featured regularly in his first season on the South Coast. However, the arrival of Martin Montoya from Valencia a few months ago has seen him fall down the pecking order.
The one-time Italy international would not be guaranteed starts under Steve McClaren at QPR, however, given that Angel Rangel has impressed at Loftus Road and recently extended a short-term contract until the end of the campaign.
29-year-old Schelotto has also represented Atalanta, Parma, Chievo and Sassuolo in a nomadic career.
