West Bromwich Albion reportedly want to raid Championship challengers Blackburn Rovers.

Bradley Dack might have won the League One Player of the Year award as Blackburn Rovers finished second behind Wigan Athletic last season, but the former Gillingham attacker still had to prove he could step up to the Championship.

Five games and three goals later, however, and the cynics have been well and truly silenced. Dack has taken to the second tier like a duck to water and was Blackburn’s difference-maker once again on Saturday.

He opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa with an impudent flick; the sort of inspired piece of skill that saw him stand head and shoulders above anyone on Steve Bruce’s expensively assembled team.

This display alone explained why West Bromwich Albion are so keen to sign him. According to the Sun on Sunday (16 September, page 63), the Baggies are big fans of the 24-year-old and reportedly saw a £15 million bid rejected over the summer.

On this evidence, Blackburn could afford to demand closer to £20 million for their red-hot talisman. It remains to be seen how much West Brom are prepared to raise their offer by in January, but Dack is the sort of mid-season signing who could establish Darren Moore’s side as promotion favourites.

As he showed against Villa, he can turn a game on its head with one moment of inspiration. And a West Brom side that has won just three out of seven games would benefit from that kind of ability.
