Celtic’s hopes of signing Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe have just been dealt a considerable blow, with Eddie Howe making it clear that the £15 million man remains an ‘integral’ part of his plans while speaking to the Daily Echo.
With two weeks until the transfer window slams shut, Celtic are running out of time to reinforce a squad that is severely lacking quality in several key positions.
And a failure to qualify for the Champions League means that their ability to reinvest the £25 million gained from Kieran Tierney’s sale has just become far more complicated.
According to the Sun, Celtic were hoping that Bournemouth would allow Ibe to move north of the border on a loan deal as the former Liverpool youngster looks to rebuild his confidence, two years after joining the Cherries for £15 million.
Yet amid concerns over a foot injury suffered by summer signing Arnaut Danjuma, Howe does not want Ibe to go anywhere before the end of the month.
“No, Jordon is an integral part of our squad,” Howe said.
For what it’s worth, the Daily Echo claims that Ibe turned down a move to Newcastle United or Middlesbrough last week as he wanted to stay and fight for his place at the Vitality Stadium.
With one year left on his contract down south, this season feels make or break for a player who, once upon a time, looked like the most exciting young winger in a Liverpool side also containing a certain Raheem Sterling.
