Crystal Palace and West Ham are keen to offer prolific Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott a chance in the Premier League.
Jack Marriott has been on the radar of a number of Championship sides since early December.
But with the 23-year-old maintaining his remarkable run of form in front of goal for Peterborough United, his price-tag is rising and clubs higher up the pyramid are starting to take note of the Football League’s most prolific marksman.
According to the Sun, Crystal Palace and West Ham have both sent scouts to watch Marriott in action of late. And it is understood that Palace are planning a £7 million bid for a player who took his tally to 24 when netting in Peterborough’s 3-0 win against Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
As such, Palace would be paying even more for Marriott than they did to land one Dwight Gayle from the Posh back in 2013. But, based on statistics alone, the striker who models himself on Sergio Aguero is worth a punt.
So too for West Ham, who look set to shake up their attacking options this month. Javier Hernandez, Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll have all been linked with the exit and David Moyes would love to get his hands on a raw talent like Marriott.
And he may just get his wish. Because the Sun (21st January, page 59) is reporting that Peterborough are interested in signing Stevenage’s Matty Godden, who would act as an immediate replacement for Marriott.
Godden has scored 13 goals for Stevenage and, like former Luton striker Marriott, would be moving to London Road from League Two.
Expect Palace and West Ham, then, to take a vested interest in this lower league deal.
