The 18-year-old wonderkid needs to move away from Tottenham Hotspur on loan to progress and Bolton Wanderers are in need of a creator.

That Bolton Wanderers are within touching distance of the automatic promotion positions in League One is commendable to say the least. Saved from the brink of administration in November and relegated to the third tier just a few months prior, the one-time Premier League regulars have been forced to survive on free transfers and loans.

They have not spent a penny all season and, as it stands, are lying in third, just a point off second with a game in hand.

However, despite netting eight goals in their last two games, the January departure of top scorer Zach Clough (above) to Nottingham Forest and Sammy Ameobi’s return to Newcastle United robbed Bolton of their two most dangerous creative talents.

Although the financial restrictions means finding a replacement is easier said than done. However 18-year-old Tottenham Hotspur starlet Marcus Edwards, compared to Lionel Messi by none other than Mauricio Pochettino, is desperately searching for an opportunity to prove his worth and could find the ideal chance at Bolton.

Edwards, a quick-footed creative midfielder, has only played one senior game for Tottenham, coming on in the final 15 minutes of the EFL Cup clash with Gillingham at the start of the season, and has spent most of the season on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

However, Tottenham are hardly short on attacking talents, meaning Edwards may have to look elsewhere initially to boost his first-team prospects. And a Bolton side restricted to loan deals and in need of a creative spark could do worse than to give him a chance next season – especially after Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony ruled his club out of the running on Twitter.

Bolton have enjoyed great success in the loan market this season and, for nothing, Edwards could fill the void left by the loss of Clough and Ameobi.
